New year, new decade, new adventures

Added 11 January 2010

It’s fair to say that 2009 wasn’t the easiest year. I’ve definitely learned a lot and am certain that it’s the trying times that teach you the most. Running a company in the good times is relatively straightforward – most of the time – but steering a business through stormy waters provides life lessons it would be difficult to learn any other way.

Without wanting to dwell on the past, I think it is worth saying that I have been truly inspired and heartened by the loyalty and complete dedication of the team at Six Degrees throughout 2009. We have run some fantastic campaigns, maintained strong relationships with long-standing clients and managed to secure new ones. It is this commitment and positive, can-do attitude that will enable us to achieve our big ambitions for 2010.

In a nutshell, memorable moments from 2009 include:

  • Winning a great consumer software account after a hotly contested pitch
  • Bidding farewell to a long-standing team member, John Lardge, upon his retirement.
  • Creating a strategic three-year plan for Six Degrees quite unlike any plans we’ve had before – an inspiring, motivating and challenging experience.
  • Increased contribution to the entrepreneurial scene in the UK, through Seedcamp, Launch 48 and the Entrepreneurs’ Organization
  • Celebrating the tenth anniversary (with Six Degrees) of two of our valued consultants – Andrea Willige and Andrew Bartlett.

And so much more …

Despite the attempts of the British weather to thwart our enthusiasm, 2010 is already off to a roaring start. We are motivated, focused and determined to make this a year to remember.

On a personal note, I have every confidence in the team to put our grand plans into action as I take a back seat for a few months to look after another baby in my life … the one that’s due in two weeks!

I suspect this will be my last blog post for a while, but look out for news, views and general 'food for thought' from the rest of the Six Degrees team.
