Six Degrees signs up for 2007 walk against hunger
HOME >> NEWS AND VIEWS >>Six Degrees signs up for 2007 walk against hunger

On 13 May 2007 up to one million people in over 100 countries will be joining 5km local fundraising walks. The UK will host at least one walk, around Regent’s Park in central London.

This year, more than 760,000 people in 118 countries and 420 locations, across 24 time zones, took part in ‘Walk the World’. Across the world people came out in force to deliver a protest against child hunger and to encourage everyone to do all they can to eliminate it.

Six Degrees’ director, Mandy Hassall, says, “2006 was the first year we became involved in this worthwhile cause. It is a big challenge promoting an event like this when there are so many charities clamouring for public support.

“We were disappointed by the fact that some of the good work was undermined by appalling weather on the day of the walk in London. Nevertheless, over 1,000 turned out. We are hopeful that in 2007 we will attract many more people.”

In the UK, Six Degrees will work directly with the UN World Food Programme office in London, while Eurocom Worldwide’s German member agency, Schwartz PR is responsible for global coordination with WFP’s headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Together with WFP, Eurocom Worldwide succeeded in creating awareness of ‘Walk the World’ and its global message: The world should not look away when 350 million children are starving and every 5 seconds a child dies of hunger.
