Imagine being able to answer your doorbell when you’re in the supermarket, on the train, or sitting on the beach in the south of France. That’s the promise of an innovative new device from Netherlands high-tech firm Waleli, launched in its home market earlier this year. Now the company plans to export the concept to other markets in Europe, and has appointed UK high-tech specialist Six Degrees to provide media relations support for its international expansion plans. “The Waleli GSM Doorbell brings the humble doorbell into the 21st century,” explained Jennifer Janson, MD of Six Degrees. “It links in to the global mobile phone network, so that when your doorbell rings, your mobile phone rings. You can talk to your visitor via a speakerphone next to the bell-push, and even unlock the door if appropriate, all via your mobile phone”. Initially, Six Degrees will be helping Waleli with a B2B campaign to bring the GSM Doorbell and other new products to the attention of potential channel partners in the telecoms and home security fields. Then the campaign will broaden to include consumer audiences. “We chose Six Degrees because of their 30-year track record in the telecoms sector, and because we felt they were in tune with our strategic business ambitions, and how our needs will evolve as the business grows” said Siete Hamminga, founder and MD of Waleli. Waleli is one of the new breed of high-tech companies that look for ways to apply the latest technologies in innovative products for the home and workplace. With access to efficient resources on a global scale, the company’s vision is to stay small, efficient, and able to take new product concepts from drawing board to market very quickly. Waleli develops and markets products under its own brand; and also works in partnership with larger organisations to help them identify new product concepts and ‘fast-track’ their development. The company is based in central Amsterdam. One of the investors in the firm is Shell, along with venture capital groups and individuals. Since its foundation in 2002, Waleli has won three innovation awards in the Netherlands, including Livewire Business Award, Top Three Business Boost, and Innovation Trophy. |
